Pass Plus
Pass Plus has been introduced for new drivers who have passed their practical test within the past 12 months. Pupils who decide to take the course normally do so within 1 month of getting their full UK driving licence. There are six modules to the course. It is designed to build on your existing knowledge and experiences and to gain confidence in driving situations that you may not have come across in your training up to your practical test. The good news is that there is no test at then end of the course.
Why your Pass Plus certificate is important
Once you have completed the course you will receive a certificate. Keep this safe as this is written proof that you have passed the Pass Plus course. You will then be able to claim your discount on your motor car insurance policy.
Checking for discounts on your car insurance
DSA advises you to check for available discounts offered by insurance companies to drivers who have completed their Pass Plus course.
The amount you can save will vary depending on the insurance company you choose.
Insurers who support Pass Plus offer discounts on the following types of motor insurance cover:
- comprehensive
- third party, fire and theft
- third party only
If you do not have a car at the moment, check with your insurance company, to see if you can defer the discount. You may be able to for up to two years.
You should check which company offers you the best discount as you could save more money on your insurance than you actually paid for your Pass Plus course, effectively getting your training for nothing. If you already have insurance and passed your practical driving test more than a year ago, check that you will still be eligible for the discount.
The six modules are:
Module 1 : Driving in Busy Town Centres
Module 2 : Driving in Adverse Weather Conditions
Module 3 : Driving on Rural Roads
Module 4 : Driving in the Dark
Module 5 : Driving on Dual Carriageways
Module 6 : Driving on Motorways
The modules can be done in any order and you may find that a subject can only be taught as theory due to circumstances.
