Motorway Lessons

To do a motorway lesson you will need to hold a Full UK Driving Licence.

This lesson can be taken as part of the Pass Plus course for new drivers wishing to gain extra experience after passing their practical test.  Or for the more experienced driver to gain confidence when driving at speed.

Many experienced drivers and new drivers worry about driving on motorways due to the high  speeds.  Motorways are generally safe roads to drive on.  They  usually have good quality surfaces, are wider,  straighter for longer distances and have no pedestrians, cyclists, or invalid carriages to worry about. The traffic all flows in one direction mostly all travelling at the same speed.  This does mean that you need to concentrate fully all of the time.

The course deals with the following:

  • Car Maintenance and checks before setting off.
  • Planning your route and  stopping for breaks.
  • How to enter and exit a motorway safely.
  • Traffic entering from the left.
  • Lane discipline and safety gaps.
  • Reading the road at Far distance, Middle distance, Near and Behind.
  • Overtaking and Moving back in.
  • Road signs and Overhead electronic boards.
  • Speed changes once leaving the motorway.
  • What to do in an emergency.
